Saidian - Phoenix

Die Stuttgarter Melodik Metall Band Saidian hatten bereits 2005 für rege Aufregung gesorgt. Gegründet im Jahre 2004 von Keyboarder Markus Bohr (der zuvor schon erfolglos versuchte mit diversen Namen und Musikern, eine professionelle Band aus der Taufe zu heben), kam der Stein aber erst durch den Einstieg von Markus Engelfried (Gesang), Manuel Glassmann (Bass), Rodrigo Blattert (Gitarre), Schlagzeuger Stefan Dittrich und der Umbenennung in Saidian ins Rollen. Kurz nach den Aufnahmen ihres Debütalbum „For Those Who Walk The Path Forlorn“ im Backnanger Maranis Studio mit Produzent Vagelis Maranis (Ex-Sanvoisen Sänger) konnte man einen Deal mit den renommierten Label Metal Heaven (u.a. Altaria, Bloodbound, Pump) abschließen. Auf der Promotion Tour mit Jon Olivias Pain entwickelte sich eine Freundschaft zwischen den beiden Bands, sodass Jon Olivia sich bereit erklärte, vor einem Konzert in der Rockfabrik Ludwigsburg im Juli 2006 schnell eine Strophe für den Song „Crown Of Creation“ einzusingen. Leider musste sich die Band allerdings im Vorfeld von Schlagzeuger Stefan trennen, aber mit Ex-Primal Fear Schlagzeuger Klaus Sperling (u.a. Sinner, My Darkest Hate) hat man einen mehr als würdigen Ersatz gefunden. Das Material auf „Phoenix“ ist ein wenig härter und besticht durch eingängige Melodien, filigrane Gitarrenarbeit und einer Rhythmus Sektion, die dem Ganzen die richtige Dosis Metal verleiht. Beim erstmaligen Durchlauf entsteht bei mir jedoch gleich ein Vergleich zur Band Edguy. Nicht nur in der Gesangsweise, sondern auch von der Art- und Spielweise der Songs, sind parallelen zu Edguy oder auch Stratovarius zu verzeichnen. Nichtsdestotrotz thront natürlich der überragende Gesang von Markus „Engel“ Engelfried über allen Songs. Was die Songs wie „Ride On A Phoenix“, „State Of Euphoria“, „Fallen Hero“ aber zu wahren Ohrwürmern macht. Das Album bietet schnelle Rhythmen teilweise durch Keyboardgebundene Arien „Praise the Lord“, „Never Surrender“, „Power and Glory“ oder „The Jester“ , jedoch auch sehr abwechslungsreiche Stampfer „Crown of Creation“ oder „Reign Of Agony“ und Songs im ¾ Takt „Ride Like the Wind“ oder „Nine Lives“. Auch mit ruhigeren Songs „See the Light“ wird gedient. Saidian hat ein glanzvolles Album fabriziert und doch im Endeffekt nichts wirklich Neues gezaubert, was bei diesem Schwarm an Powermetall heutzutage herausgebracht wird. Für alle Edguy oder Stratovarius Fans alle mal was zu haben. Auch wenn das Album durch eine tolle Produktion, mehrfach talentierten Musikern und einer satten Portion an krachendem Sound besteht, muss man die Reaktionen der Kaufkraft berücksichtigen und erstmal abwarten wie sich das Album bewert.

Saidian Germany´s Melodic Metal band from 2005, is ready to take off. Formed in 2004 from Keyboardplayer Markus Bohr (who already tried unsuccessfully

before with different Musicians) but first get a rolling stone through the members Markus Engelfried (vocals), Manuel Glassmann (bass), Rodrigo Blattert (guitar), drummer Stefan Dittrich and the renaming in Saidian. Shortly after the recordings of the debut album „For Those Who Walk The Path Forlorn“ with producer Vagelis Maranis (Ex- singer of Sanvoisen), the band inked a world-wide multi-album deal with German based label Metal Heaven (Altaria, Bloodbound, Pump). On the promotion tour as support of Jon Olivias Pain developed a new friendship between both bands and Jon Olivia decided to sing a short verse on the track „Crown Of Creation“. Before they entered the studio, the band had to part ways with drummer Stefan Ditrich, but with Ex-Primal Fear drummer Klaus Sperling (Sinner, My Darkest Hate) they found more than a fantastic replacement. „Phoenix“ shows Saidian from their harder side than on the first album by in-usual melodies, filigrane guitar work and a captivate rhythm section, which lend the correct dose Metal to the album. With the first run a comparison to the band Edguy develops for me however equal. Not only in the singing way, but also of the kind and play way of the Songs, parallel to Edguy or also Stratovarius are evident. Anyway the great singing of Markus „Engel“ Engelfried thrones all over the songs. What makes the songs like „Ride On A Phoenix“, „State Of Euphoria“ and „Fallen Hero“ to true ear worms. The Album partly offers fast rhythms by key-board-bound airs „Praise the Lord“, „Never Surrender“, „Power and Glory“ or „The Jester“ but also very varied soil compactors „Crown of Creation“ or „Reign Of Agony“ and songs in the ¾ clock „Ride Like the Wind“ or „Nine Lives“. Even calmer songs „See the Light“ get served. Saidian make a marvelous album and in the end not really something new what get released in the swarm of powermetal today. For Fans of Edguy and Stratovarius always to have. Even when the album shines with a great production, several talented musicians and a fat portion of powerful sound, you must consider the reactions of the spending power and first wait for the Assessment of the album.
