Steelheart - Same

Nach Flut an Veröffentlichungen Ende der 80er Jahre, war das Jahr 1990 vergleichsweise ruhig, was neue Alben aus dem Rocksektor betraf. Das wurde von einigen Newcomerbands genutzt, um ihre Debetalben rauszubringen. Eine von denen waren Steelheart, die mit ihrem selbstbetitelten ersten Album einen wirklich gelungenen Einstand feiern konnten. Die Songs können mit ihrer Mischung aus Glam und Sleaze fast alle überzeugen und bekommen von dem kreischenden Gesang von Michael Matijevic, der ein bisschen an Britny Fox erinnert, noch den individuellen Touch aufgesetzt.

Gleich der este Song „Love ain’t easy“ rockt richtig ab und bringt ne Menge Energie mit. Auch die nächsten beiden Lieder „Can’t Stopp me lovin’ you“ und „Like never before“ können auf jeden Fall begeistern. Ein weiteres Highlight ist der wohl melodischste Song des Albums, die Nummer fünf „Everybody loves Eileen“. Das lustige daran ist, das es bei uns in der achten Klasse wirklich mal eine Eileen gab, auf die jeder scharf war.

Eine Ballade gehört ja zum Standard auf jeder Glamscheibe, hier gibt es mit der Nummer vier „I’ll never let you go“ und der Nummer neun „She’s gone“ gleich zwei, die eigentlich auch ganz gut sind. Der Abschluss von „Steelheart“ ist noch mal ein richtiger Knaller. „Down n’ dirty“ haut mit ’nem coolen Text und einer Hammermelodie noch mal richtig rein.

Ein bisschen Kritik muss sich das Album aber auch gefallen lassen, wer schon mehr von meinen Reviews gelesen hat, weiss ja das ich noch nie ein Freund von langen Intros und ausschweifenden Instrumentals war, und wenn man bedenkt, dass das Album bei einer Laufzeit von knapp einer Stunde nur zehn Songs drauf hat, kann man sich denken, das es einiges von der Sorte zu hören gibt. So dauert es bei „Down n’ dirty“ z. B. über eine Minute, bis die erste Strofe anfängt.

Trotzdem ist die Scheibe echt spitze und sollte eigentlich jedem gefallen.

After many publishings at the end of the eighties, 1990 was almost quiet with new stuff from the rock sector. Some newcomerbands used that time to publish their debut albums. One of them were Steeheart, who had a huge impact with their selftitled first album. The songs consist of a mix of glam and sleaze and get a personal touch from the screaming singing of Michael Matijevic, which sometimes reminds at Britny Fox.

Right the first song “Love ain’t easy” really rocks and comes with enormous energy. The next two songs “Can’t stop me lovin’ you” and “Like never before” are very good, too. Another highlight is the very melodic song number five “Everybody loves Eileen”. The funny thing is that in eights grade we actually used to have an Eileen that everybody had a crush on.

For a glamrockalbum one ballad is standard and with number four “I’ll never let you go” and number nine “She’s gone” “Steelheart” even has two, which are quite good. The last song “Down n’ dirty” is another great piece of music with a cool text and a fast rocking melody.

But the album also has to be criticized a little bit. People that have read some of my reviews before know, that I’m no friend of long intros and instrumentals during a song. And when you realize that the album features only ten songs with a running time of almost an hour you’ll know that there’ll be a lot of those. For example “Down n’ dirty” needs more than a minute until it actually starts.

But in spite of that the album is really great and every Rockfan should like it.
